#1- Black Market Syndicate

Location: Houston, Texas
Genre: Punk/ Houston Punk
Members:

This is a very good band. They hit close to home being from Houston, and they have gone real far in their career as a punk band. All you can do to fit them in a genre is call them Houston punk because of their original sound that only sounds slightly similar to other bands in the area. I have met Randy personally on several occasions the most recent being an instance where we were going out to eat at a restaurant with my friend Will Cloninger (who from what I hear has become their sort of de facto publicist trying to get them local support in Sugar Land) and we saw him sitting in a booth not to far away. We offered him a spot at our booth and proceeded to talk about current events with him and the band. The band used to be called Deathbed Repentance, but now has moved to a (as I feel) less depressing and more punk-rock sounding name. They play a more classic punk style and seem to be more true punk music without all the add-ons like core, ska, neo, or post. Many of their local fans seem to keep them at the top of their lists, and I myself am one. My first time seeing these guys was at Do It Together Fest '09 at my favorite venue Super Happy Fun Land. I have participated in publicizing them at my high school, being the only real person it seemed they could get to do it in that age group, and have handed out sample CDs and fliers for shows. Certainly my view is biased for them but I feel they are a great band and despite there one produced album they should be able to go to the top of some list.
